Google Project Astra Preview

The future of search is more than just typing text into a box. Multimodal search allows for images, voice, video, and location inputs.

Google’s take on this is Project Astra, which they preview in a video walking around London, showing reasonable ways that search will likely improve in the future.

What is ChatGPT Doing

This post by Stephen Wolfram is a great read on how ChatGPT (and all the other LLMs) are achieving their results.

Understanding how they work is key to understanding how to use and optimize them.

I’d recommend that you work your way through the post in chunks, asking your AI of choice to explain any unfamiliar or unclear concepts.

Thompson Reuters v Ross Gen AI Lawsuit

I saw a lot of bad takes around Thompson Reuters winning their lawsuit against Ross this week.

I’m not a lawyer, but it seems clear that the suit isn’t broadly applicable to the general use of AI tools for search and content creation.

Ross was using AI to directly compete with Thompson by replicating their proprietary case classification system.

Perplexity Finance Board

Perplexity has launched a new dashboard for tracking and researching stocks.

It’s a great example of how AI search tools are becoming more and more integrated into the financial services industry.

It shows that we’ve barely scratched the surface of what and how AI is going to be used. We will have full custom AI reports daily for our stock portfolios very shortly.
