What is Domain Intelligence?

Domain Intelligence compares your site to tracked competitors on two things: how large each site is, and how often AI answers cite pages from those sites.

Site Footprint

Site Footprint is the number of distinct URLs Knowatoa found in that domain’s sitemap.

Knowatoa does not crawl every page of your site for this number. It fetches and parses the sitemap (from robots.txt Sitemap directives and/or /sitemap.xml, including nested sitemap indexes). The count next to each brand is how many sitemap URLs were discovered for that domain.

A larger footprint is not automatically better. Site Influence shows whether that content shows up in AI citations.

Site Pages

Site Pages is broader than Site Footprint. It is the count of distinct pages Knowatoa knows about on that domain from any of these sources:

• Sitemap URLs
• Pages cited in AI responses for your tracked questions
• Pages seen in organic search results

So Site Pages can be higher than Site Footprint when Knowatoa has also seen pages through citations or search results that were not (or not yet) in the sitemap.

Cited Pages

Cited Pages is the number of distinct pages on that domain that AI engines have cited at least once in answers to your tracked questions.

This metric comes from AI response citations, not from the sitemap. A page only counts after it appears as a citation in Knowatoa’s tracked AI answers.

AI Coverage and Citation Gap

AI Coverage is Cited Pages divided by Site Pages. It estimates how much of the known site is showing up in AI citations.

Citation Gap compares each competitor’s total citation count to yours on the shared questions you track.

How to read the numbers together

If Site Footprint is still loading, Knowatoa is still fetching the sitemap. Numbers fill in once that fetch finishes.
