Connect with Claude Code

Requirements

Setup

Run this command in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http knowatoa https://knowatoa.com/mcp

That’s it. On your first request that uses Knowatoa data, Claude Code will open your browser so you can sign in.

Usage

Once connected, ask Claude Code about your AI search data:

  • “How is my site doing in AI search?”
  • “Show me my visibility across AI services”
  • “What questions am I tracking?”
  • “Add a question: What is the best CRM for small businesses?”

Removing the connection

To remove the Knowatoa MCP server:

claude mcp remove knowatoa

Troubleshooting

Browser login doesn’t complete Check that you’re signing in with the same email address associated with your Knowatoa account.

“Got new credentials, but knowatoa rejected them on reconnect” OAuth completed, but /mcp refused the token. Two common causes:

  1. No API access on the signed-in account. MCP requires the same entitlement as the REST API (Growth plan or an allow_api_access entitlement). Without it, authorize now redirects to the MCP features page instead of minting a token that /mcp would 403. Confirm the account you signed in with during the browser step has API access, then clear auth and reconnect.
  2. Stale cached credentials. Run claude mcp remove knowatoa, add the server again, and re-authenticate.

OAuth tokens carry mcp_read and mcp_write (mutating tools need write). Authorize always grants both, even if the client asks for read-only. If a connection still cannot write, remove and re-add the MCP server so a fresh authorize runs (refresh alone will not expand an old read-only token).

Authentication error later in a session Tokens refresh automatically in the background. If you ever do get an auth error, sign in again — that usually means the refresh token was revoked or your client cleared it.
